"The very minute my new dental appliance was inserted, it was a perfect fit. I knew at that moment it was a good decision. Dental implants - I just can't say enough good things about them. They can change and improve your quality of life."
-- Ramona Welty
Dr. Thomas E. Fulton has exceptional expertise in implant dentistry. With over 30 years in practice, hundreds of hours devoted to advanced courses in implant surgery and implant restorative dentistry, and over 3,000 implants placed, Dr. Fulton is the leading choice for patients in need of dental implants in Dayton and Springfield, Ohio. Residents of the greater Dayton area and beyond seek Dr. Fulton to restore health, beauty, and function to their mouths with dental implants and full mouth restoration. Because Dr. Fulton can perform implant surgery as well as place prosthetic teeth, there's no need to go anywhere else for implant treatment.
Dental implants are an advanced alternative for patients with missing teeth. Unlike traditional bridges and dentures, dental implants are titanium implant posts that are integrated into the jawbone to provide durable, permanent anchors for prosthetic teeth that look, function, and feel like natural teeth.
Tooth loss can negatively impact your speech, periodontal health, facial structure, and social life. Dental implants, placed at our office in the Dayton and Springfield, Ohio area, provide the optimal solution. Dental implants provided by Dr. Fulton prevent the bone loss that occurs when teeth are missing, thus preserving your facial structure. Implants also strengthen your bite so you can chew food properly, and they help to prevent gum recession. Unlike traditional bridges that rely on surrounding natural teeth for support, dental implants do not compromise the integrity of your natural tooth structure.

The procedure to place dental implants is a multi-step process that begins with the surgical placement of sturdy titanium alloy posts into your jawbone. Dr. Fulton performs implant surgery at our Fairborn office, located in the greater Dayton area, where he offers patients the option of conscious IV sedation. The posts, which look similar to metal screws, fuse to your jawbone over a period of several months following surgery. During this period, while your gums and jawbone heal, you can wear temporary replacement teeth until Dr. Fulton fits your permanent, natural-looking prosthetic teeth.
Fitting and securing dental implant prosthetics (artificial teeth) to your implant posts completes the implant restoration process. After your posts have fused to your jawbone, Dr. Fulton replaces missing teeth by attaching metal-free crowns, bridges, or dentures to the implants, depending on the number of missing teeth. Whether you need one tooth, several teeth, or all of your teeth replaced, Dr. Fulton will design and implement the dental implants treatment plan that is optimal for your oral health and dental beauty.
Sometimes, during the preoperative stages of placing dental implants, exams and X-rays reveal that a patient's jawbone is too thin or to too soft to support dental implant posts. In such cases, Dr. Fulton can perform a bone graft to strengthen the jawbone in preparation for implant surgery.
During bone grafting, a piece of bone is removed from another part of the body, often the chin, and transplanted into the jawbone. Over a period of several months, the transplanted bone will grow and become strong enough to support dental implants. Typically, it takes about six months before a bone graft sufficiently fuses to the jawbone.
The bone graft is done as an outpatient procedure by Dr. Fulton at our Fairborn office. While a bone graft only requires the use of local anesthesia, we also offer conscious IV sedation for patients who experience dental anxiety.
When a patient is undergoing extensive dental work, it is not uncommon for the patient to feel anxious or nervous. Dr. Fulton is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and can safely provide conscious IV sedation for patients undergoing implant surgery, full mouth restoration, and other procedures. Conscious IV sedation allows our patients to enter a state of extreme relaxation while remaining alert enough to respond to our dental staff as needed. With continual monitoring to ensure patient safety, Dr. Fulton provides a pain-free, completely comfortable dental experience.
